Ski Club at KM
Alpine Skiing is one of the greatest winter activities for young people to learn to appreciate being outdoors, and to fostering health and mental well being in the cold dark winters of the North. In Ottawa we are also fortunate to have incredible access to local ski hills that have Ottawa ranked as one of the best places to live as a skier. Ski Club has a long history at Kanata Montessori, the Elementary school has been going to the best "learn to ski" hill in the region Mount Pakenham for over 15 years. We have successfully brought nearly a 1000 young skiers into the local alpine ski community. Many of these coming from family backgrounds new to this sport. The senior high program has been going for an annual ski day at Camp Fortune ski area for the past five years. However this year our high school is very excited to offer an expanded program of regular ski nights in the winter plus includes a Montessori Community Ski Weekend at Mont Tremblant. Junior Elementary Ski Club
Elementary Ski Club has a limited enrolment of 48 students due to the bussing shortage this year. The ski club will be announced on a Monday and registration will need to be confirmed by the following Monday. For simple fairness the first ten to register on Wednesday morning will be given spaces and if there is sufficient demand the final three spaces will be drawn from a hat lottery style. Mont Tremblant Ski Trip
Mont Tremblant is an iconic Canadian Ski Destination attraction skiers from around the globe. A true world class destination resort that is located an easy 2 hour drive from our school. This trip is open to families from the Kanata Montessori community. As a community we will board a coach bus starting from the school on Friday at 3:45 pm arriving at the resort at 6:00 pm to a welcome dinner for two nights and two days of skiing.
Our senior high school students will stay under educator supervision in a pre booked hotel at the heart of the village. There will be an educator monitoring curfews and students will be in educator supervised groups for the entirety of the weekend. Students will also be participating in evening activities. Senior school parents can also join us knowing we will supervise their senior high school students during the evenings, but that we will join each other for morning breakfast while student and parents can choose their dinner destination. Parents can choose to eat together, with the students or on their own. Students will be supervised in the evenings and mornings and spend the day on the hill skiing.
Elementary students are also welcome to join us however they are required to be in accommodations with their parents who will be responsible for staying with their children in the evenings and arranging meals. However, we will facilitate a group booking for meals for those parents who would like to dine with other families. During the day we will arrange group skiing activities and lessons for the elementary students for a half day. Parents are free to do their own thing during this time. After the group activities are done parents can meet their children on the hill for the remainder of the day.
