Kanata Montessori
School is a non-denominational, not-for-profit co-operative
school – it is owned and operated by the parents
of the children enrolled at the school. KMS continues
to broaden the services it provides to meet the changing
needs of students and parents.
In 1974, a handful of parents founded
March Montessori School as a parent-run, not-for-profit
school, offering the Casa program.
Now called Kanata Montessori
School, the school offers a child-centered approach
to learning for children from 18 months to 14 years
old.
In the 1990s we moved into a beautiful
purpose-built building in the South Kanata Business
Park. A major expansion of the school was completed
in 2000. The school also owns 1.3 acres of woodland
next door. Staff have carved a nature trail in the woods,
and the children use the woods on a daily basis for
exploring and nature experiments.
We now have one toddler
class, five Casa (primary) classes, and two junior and
one senior Elementary and an Adolescent (Grade 7 &
8) program. Currently 200 students from 130 families
are enrolled, with over 20 Montessori teachers, French
and art teachers, assistants and administrative and
support staff.
